Almost my entire professional life has been spent in the non-profit and public sectors, learning how to shape our institutions to produce good for the communities I live in.
Kobak for Council
In October of 2018, I stepped down from my job in City Hall to announce a campaign for City Council. Over the course of 6 months, we ran a grass-roots progressive campaign that fought for racial equity, complete streets, criminal justice reform, and equitable economic development. Our campaign finished 7th of 15 candidates; while we didn’t earn a seat on the City Council, we educated thousands of our neighbors on systemic issues and offered a fresh vision of hope for Peoria.
City of Peoria Innovation Team
Local government has an enormous opportunity to be a laboratory of innovation that is responsive to residents’ needs. As a Project Manager on the City of Peoria’s Innovation Team, I served as an in-house consultant on human-centered design and process improvement for all municipal departments. Funded by a $1.5 million grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies, I combined best practices from Innovation Teams at City Halls across the world with original ethnographic research conducted in Peoria.
September, 2018: Route Fifty honors “The Next Generation.” These up-and-coming leaders in government are showing that new ideas and new blood can bring big change into state and local government.
Excerpt: “Kobak has played a crucial role in spreading the work of Peoria’s three-year-old innovation team well beyond a small group by developing the cities’ Data Science Fellowship. The fellowship is a 10-week intensive data science course through General Assembly.”

Ohioans to Stop Executions
Ohioans to Stop Executions (OTSE) is the only organization in the State of Ohio whose sole mission is to abolish Ohio’s death penalty, through political advocacy, awareness raising, and grassroots organizing. From 2013-2015, I led a complete re-branding and website design, organized on the ground statewide, and supported strategy and policy on the abolition of Ohio’s death penalty.
